Ain’ that the creepiest thing you’ve ever seen?

“Ain’t that the creepiest thing you’ve ever seen?”

So my 8 year old came to me with an idea: to make a Halloween song, but one his friends would think is cool. He had some ideas down lyrically, and was very excited. We finished off the lyrics together, the went down to the studio and fired up the daw…

We programed the drums using an iPod touch app which was in part an experiment. Dropped a simple synth bass line courtesy of Bebot synth (also an app). Layered some dissonant pianos and pitzy strings for their menacing appeal.

The first things we recorded was Jomei gargling, which we then reversed and pitched way down for an ominous dark sound. After that we moved on to the vocals. This is the 3 time Jomei has rocked the mic in the studio, and I think he really delivered. There is great emotion and cadence in his lyrics, despite the comping that we did.

We were so pleased with the way it turned out, that we fired up the video camera, call in the friends for a pizza party video shoot and made a spooky little video for the whole shebang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm1InjJLI6g
